Iteration 2: Speculate

Plan for Iteration 2.

Minimum Viable Product (MVP): When Gaitkeeper can accurately sense a normal walking gait and provide recognizable feedback when the gait is improper. This will include an accelerometer whose reading will be processed in a program to determine walking gait and in turn vibrate the user to notify them that the gait is improper.

Total Feature List (prioritized):

FeaturePriorityTime
Detect walking with accelerometerHigh65 hours
Research walking gait and angles associated at various stepsHigh20 hours
Use potentiometer and bend sensor to test ROMMedium10 hours
Use switch on brace or pressure sensor hinge to detect full extensionLow10 hours
Learn how to use Arduino Nano BLE functionMedium6 hours
Use BLE/wifi to send data to computer for sensing buzzerHigh30 hours
Integrate walking data with computer readings to activate buzzerHigh20 hours
Use data on computer to do data analysis for user and PTLow25 hours
Test various batteries (9V, portable phone charger)Medium5 hours
Test and determine best feedback mechanisms (buzzer, haptic, etc)High10 hours
Attach and adjust placement of sensors on braceMedium5 hours
———————————————————-——-TOTAL: 216 hours

Note: Work in bold has been completed or worked on partially

Work planned for iteration 2:

NameFeatureHours
MallorySwap out potentiometer, incorporate another buzzer, detect walking with accelerometer~24 hours
ElsySwap out potentiometer, incorporate another buzzer, detect walking with accelerometer~24 hours
ElijahSwap out potentiometer, incorporate another buzzer, detect walking with accelerometer~24 hours

The desired outcome of iteration 2 is a fully functioning prototype (our MVP) where walking is properly detected. We would like the brace to have all the new components we decided upon connected and to detect the walking motion properly. This will include replacing our current components with refined ones and using our conceptual gait research in practice.
